About CogLock
Unmatched Wheel SEcurity

CogLock has been developed by Chris Coghill, a qualified technician with more than 15 years’ industry experience working across the board as workshop controller, service manager, depot manager and fleet engineer. He understands the issues often faced by fleet operators and has seen first-hand the gravity of a situation when a wheel has come off a truck and wanted to offer a solution.
Why Choose CogLock?

"If a wheel detaches from a vehicle travelling at 56mph, the centrifugal force of that wheel could increase its speed up to 90mph and should that hit oncoming traffic, it could reach a force of up to 10 tonnes. Should that wheel be thrown into the air, it could then bounce up to 50metres high before coming back down. For context, the force of the wheel landing is the equivalent of a cruise ship anchor or a light military tank."

Operator Error as the Key Cause of Wheel Detachment
Chris' Insight

Drawing on his personal experience, Chris believes wheel detachment is almost always down to operator error during the process of removing and refitting wheels such as not cleaning mating surfaces, not correctly tightening wheel nuts or even using equipment that is not calibrated correctly.

CogLock Protects Operators and Prevents Wheel Loss

In the UK, most HGVs, buses and coaches are fitted with some form of wheel safety device, but it hasn’t put a stop to wheel loss. Unfortunately, operator licence holders are not the ones checking, repairing or driving the vehicles, but are responsible if something goes wrong. CogLock® is specifically designed to give peace of mind to the operator licence holder by reimagining wheel detachment.
As controversial as it may sound. CogLock® is not designed to stop wheel nuts from turning, instead it prevents wheels from coming off, and gives the driver an early visual indication so that the wheels can be properly checked and tightened back up.

"By trying to stop wheel nuts from turning you are potentially locking a loose wheel nut in place without the driver or technicians knowing anything about it. For example, if a wheel is bolted back onto the vehicle with a dirty mating surface on the wheels, the technician will get a tight torque reading. If those wheel nuts are then locked in that position and the vehicle goes out on the road, that dirt may become dislodged now causing an air gap and loose wheel nuts."

In the face of operator error - the primary cause of wheel loss - CogLock® stands out by engineering out the risk of detachment.

CogLock’s 3 USPs of a secure locking mechanism, early visual indication and streamlined maintenance significantly reduce the risk of wheel detachment. It is an easy-to-use product which has been developed alongside mechanics. Full training is provided and the product simply adds seconds to technicians’ usual checks making it easily incorporated within best practice.
